The sexual assault trial involving five former members of Canada’s world junior hockey team is set to begin today in London, Ontario.
Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube, and Callan Foote have each pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault. Additionally, McLeod faces a separate charge of being a party to the offence of sexual assault, to which he has also pleaded not guilty.
Jury selection for the case was completed last Friday. Today, the prosecution is expected to present an overview of the evidence it plans to introduce during the trial.
The charges stem from an alleged incident in June 2018, when many members of the team were in London attending a Hockey Canada gala.
Court proceedings are expected to adjourn early today to allow jurors time to participate in the federal election.
