For Lisa Stapleton, the last three years have been a period of profound sorrow, as she has grappled with the loss of her daughter, Rachel, the ongoing court process, and the sentencing of the man responsible for the tragic crash.
“You are not supposed to bury your child,” Lisa Stapleton said outside the London courthouse on Wednesday. “I miss her every day.”
Rachel Stapleton, just 36 years old, tragically lost her life in a horrific crash caused by a speeding, reckless driver. Her father, Chris, and her fiancé, Dave Lindsay, continue to mourn her loss, which has left a lasting hole in their hearts.
“I wake up in the middle of the night searching for her,” said Lindsay, struggling with the deep pain of his fiancée’s absence.
Chris Stapleton also expressed the emptiness felt by the entire family: “The whole family misses her, along with her friends.”
The devastating crash occurred on January 6, 2022, when Rachel Stapleton’s car was struck by a speeding, modified BMW near the intersection of Southdale Road and Nixon Drive. While Rachel was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver of the BMW, Clay Kuzio, 25, was taken to the hospital with injuries. Kuzio was later charged and convicted of dangerous driving causing death.
During the sentencing, Justice Kelly Tranquilli spoke about the disturbing evidence presented by witnesses. “Witnesses testified to hearing and observing the white BMW driving at excessive speeds, making quick lane changes in slower traffic,” she stated. The reckless actions of the driver ultimately led to the tragic loss of a young life, a loss that will forever impact Rachel’s family and loved ones.
