London is gearing up for another record-breaking year of infrastructure development, with major roadwork and sewer projects set to transform the city. On Tuesday, the Infrastructure and Corporate Services Committee revealed that a total of $170 million in new construction, along with $125 million in ongoing multi-year projects, will be rolled out in 2025 to keep up with the city’s rapid growth.

Jennie Dann, Director of Construction and Infrastructure Services, explained that these upgrades are essential to support the city’s expanding population. “We need to upgrade our underground infrastructure to support new homes and offer more transportation options to alleviate traffic congestion,” Dann said.

This year’s infrastructure budget will surpass last year’s total tendered value of $279 million. Among the ambitious plans for 2025 are the rebuilding of 61 kilometers of road, the installation of 11 kilometers of new bike lanes, and the addition of 10 kilometers of new sidewalks.

While these improvements are crucial, they will inevitably lead to travel delays. Londoners are being encouraged to remain patient and show respect to construction workers on site. As part of this effort, the city is launching the #LdnKindness campaign to remind residents that “We’re all in this together.”

To help minimize disruptions, the city has also planned a comprehensive communication campaign. “We recognize that after consecutive years of record-breaking construction, Londoners are feeling the impacts,” Dann acknowledged. “We are always working to better coordinate projects and improve how we communicate with the public.”

As construction picks up speed, the city is taking steps to ensure that Londoners are well-informed and prepared for any changes to their travel routes.
