Since the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, London’s Victoria Park has been the site of numerous rallies—some condemning Russia’s aggression, others celebrating Ukrainian culture and resilience.
However, a rally planned for Saturday carries a renewed sense of urgency as Russian attacks escalate, intensifying the hardship faced by Ukrainians both at home and abroad.
A Call for Continued Support
Daria Hryckiw, president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress’s London Branch, became visibly emotional as she spoke about the devastation in Ukraine and the need for unwavering support.
“We have to support Ukraine. We have to support Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian people, Ukrainian children, because Ukraine is destroyed now,” she said.
Three Years of War, and a Controversial Statement
Monday marks the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a solemn milestone for the Ukrainian community. But the occasion has been overshadowed by recent controversial remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, who blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for starting the war.
Trump also suggested that Ukraine has not held free and fair elections, claims that have been widely criticized as false, including by world leaders who continue to support Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Standing Strong Amidst Misinformation
As Ukrainians in London gather once again, their message remains clear: Ukraine did not start this war, but it will continue to fight for its freedom. For many, the rally is more than a protest—it is a declaration of resilience, a demand for truth, and a plea for ongoing global support in the face of rising geopolitical tensions.
