Emergency crews sprang into action Saturday afternoon following reports of a person in distress in the river near London’s downtown core.
London Fire received a 911 call shortly before 2 p.m. indicating someone was in the water between Richmond Street and Ridout Street.
Upon arrival, crews found the individual near the shoreline and in medical distress, prompting the deployment of the department’s full water rescue team.
As the situation escalated, officials initiated a technical high-angle rescue response to assist in safely retrieving the person from the riverbank.
The individual was successfully rescued and transported to hospital by first responders. Their condition has not been released.
During the operation, Ridout Street was temporarily closed south of Horton Street to allow emergency teams space to work.
Fire officials have not yet released further details on the cause or circumstances of the incident.
