Ingersoll has been added to the growing list of communities currently under a boil water advisory, bringing the total number of affected areas to three.

The advisory now applies to all users of the Mount Elgin Municipal Water System, the Ingersoll Municipal Water System, and residents in the northeast corner of Plattsville.

Southwestern Public Health issued the advisory as a precaution after water samples raised concerns about possible bacterial contamination. The office of the medical officer of health has been alerted, and further testing is underway.

Residents impacted by the advisory have been notified by the County of Oxford and will receive further updates once the advisory is lifted.

Until then, all affected individuals are urged to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for:

Drinking

Preparing infant formula or juice

Brushing teeth

Washing raw fruits and vegetables

Making ice

Health officials emphasize that boiling the water is the safest way to ensure it’s free of harmful bacteria during the advisory period.
