A man involved in a disturbance at a Pride festival in old south London has been convicted on one of the two charges against him.

Richard Sillers, aged 37, was apprehended in July 2022 after driving up to the Pride event during Drag Queen story time. He faced charges for two offenses.

In a recent court ruling, Sillers was found guilty of possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace. The item in question was described as a Canadian flag mounted on a stick, which was brandished during the confrontation. However, he was acquitted of the second charge related to causing a disturbance.

Following the court proceedings, Sillers expressed his feelings to the media, stating, “I’m disappointed and saddened by the current state of affairs in Canada, but that’s all I have to say for now.”

His attorney, Luke Reidy, expressed discontent with the verdict, suggesting an unequal application of the law and alleging favoritism towards one side by the police officers.

The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for April 25. Reidy indicated that this legal battle may not be concluded, hinting at a possible appeal. “We’ll be seeking to postpone any imposed sentence while we pursue an appeal,” he stated.
