A significant police presence on Gordon Avenue in London led to the closure of Commissioners Road West for over an hour on Sunday afternoon as authorities responded to a “weapons investigation,” according to officers at the scene.
Around noon, the London Police Service (LPS) issued a social media alert notifying the public about the ongoing investigation in the area of Gordon Avenue and Commissioners Road West.
A woman, attempting to pick up a relative from the Gordon Avenue apartment complex, spoke to CTV News, explaining that she was unable to leave due to a shelter-in-place warning issued by police.
Multiple police vehicles were stationed outside the apartment building, and EMS crews were also on standby near the intersection of Gordon Avenue and Highview Avenue.
In a statement, Const. David Easter of the LPS explained, “At this point, we are in the early stages of an investigation. There is no known risk to public safety at this time.”
The situation caused significant disruption, but authorities reassured the public that there was no immediate danger.
