LONDON, ON — A violent collision during the Monday morning commute left one person seriously injured and a truck overturned against the fence of a local elementary school in east London.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Oxford Street and McNay Street, directly in front of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Elementary School.

Truck Slams Into School Fence

Two pickup trucks were involved in the crash. One of the vehicles was left on its side, with its cab crushed against the school’s perimeter fence. Emergency responders, including London Fire crews, were quickly on scene and had to extricate the driver from the wreckage.

The individual was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials confirmed.

School Community Disrupted

The impact of the crash was felt beyond the street. A section of the school’s playground was cordoned off with caution tape, as a precaution to keep children away from the damaged fence and crash site.

Parents and students arriving for the start of the school day were forced to navigate around the scene, guided by a crossing guard. Despite the disruption, school operations continued.

Longstanding Concerns About Speed

Several parents on site voiced frustration to CTV News, citing ongoing concerns about speeding and aggressive driving in the area.

“This has been a problem for a long time,” one parent said. “It was only a matter of time before something serious happened.”

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. There has been no word yet on whether charges will be laid.
